Are you an experienced Site Manager or General Foreman with a strong background in earthworks and civil engineering?

We're working exclusively with a well-established, privately-owned civil engineering contractor to recruit an experienced operational leader for an upcoming earthworks scheme in the West Midlands.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a business that has built an outstanding reputation for delivering technically challenging projects while genuinely investing in its people.

The initial project is a manageable-sized earthworks scheme, making it an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys being hands-on, leading from the front and taking ownership of site operations.

The Role

You'll be responsible for the day-to-day management of the site, ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest quality standards.

Working closely with the Contracts Manager and commercial team, you'll oversee all operational aspects of the project from mobilisation through to completion.

Key responsibilities will include

  • Managing earthworks operations including cut and fill activities.
  • Material management, movement and control across site.
  • Ensuring compliance with the earthworks specification, including placement, compaction and testing requirements.
  • Coordinating subcontractors, plant and direct labour.
  • Maintaining high standards of health, safety, environmental compliance and quality.
  • Programming daily activities to ensure the project remains on schedule.
  • Liaising with engineers, clients and the wider delivery team.

About You

We're keen to speak with candidates who have proven experience delivering earthworks and infrastructure projects.

You'll ideally have

  • Previous experience as a Site Manager or General Foreman within civil engineering.
  • Strong knowledge of earthworks, material management, testing and quality control.
  • Experience delivering infrastructure or heavy civils projects.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills.
  • SMSTS or SSSTS (depending on level), CSCS and First Aid.

Please note: This role is not suited to candidates whose experience is predominantly within traditional housing groundworks.

The projects delivered by our client are focused on wider civil engineering and infrastructure schemes rather than residential developer packages.

The Company

Our client is a respected civil engineering contractor with a diverse portfolio of work across the Midlands and beyond.

Their projects include earthworks, ground regeneration, drainage, reinforced concrete structures, highways infrastructure, environmental improvement works, utilities, landscaping and wider civil engineering schemes.

They have built a reputation for delivering quality projects through long-standing client relationships and repeat business.

Unlike many larger contractors, this is a close-knit team where people are genuinely valued.

Staff retention is excellent because the business offers autonomy, support and a collaborative working environment where everyone's contribution is recognised.

What's on Offer?

  • Permanent position with a secure and growing contractor.
  • Competitive salary and benefits package.
  • Long-term career development across a varied portfolio of civil engineering projects.
  • Supportive management team with a genuine focus on employee wellbeing.
  • Opportunity to work on technically interesting schemes rather than repetitive housing developments.

If you're looking for a long-term opportunity with a contractor that values quality, teamwork and its people, we'd love to hear from you.
