Our client is a well-established manufacturer specialising in bespoke security, modular, and engineered solutions for critical infrastructure sectors. Due to continued growth, they are looking to recruit an experienced and hands-on Bench Hand / Machinist/ Joiner to join their production team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a machining, fabrication, engineering, or mechanical assembly background who enjoys working in a workshop environment and takes pride in producing high-quality work.

The Role

Working within a busy manufacturing facility, you will be responsible for producing and assembling precision components, carrying out bench fitting activities, and supporting the fabrication and production teams to ensure projects are completed to specification and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate workshop machinery including drills, saws, grinders, and bench-mounted equipment
  • Measure, mark out, cut, drill, tap, and prepare metal components
  • Carry out bench fitting and assembly work to engineering drawings
  • Use hand tools and measuring equipment accurately and safely
  • Read and interpret technical drawings and specifications
  • Perform quality inspections and ensure work meets required standards
  • Support fabrication and welding preparation activities where required
  • Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment
  • Work efficiently to production schedules and deadlines

Skills & Experience Required

  • Previous experience as a Bench Hand, Machinist, Mechanical Fitter, Fabricator, Toolmaker, or similar role
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
  • Experience using hand tools, measuring equipment, and workshop machinery
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
  • Good practical skills and mechanical aptitude
  • Reliable, hardworking, and able to work effectively within a team
  • Welding or fabrication experience would be advantageous but is not essential
