The Assistant Design Manager will support the Design Manager in coordinating, reviewing, and managing the delivery of Structural Steel Design Packages from pre-construction through to fabrication and installation. The role will focus on ensuring technical compliance, programme alignment, design coordination, and effective interface management between consultants, steelwork contractors, fabricators, and internal delivery teams. This position is ideal for a technically strong individual with structural steel experience looking to develop into a full Design Manager role.
Key Responsibilities- Structural Steel Design Coordination
- Assist in managing the full lifecycle of structural steel design packages.
- Review drawings, calculations, connection designs, and fabrication models.
- Ensure designs comply with project specifications, Eurocodes, and relevant British Standards.
- Monitor and track design deliverables against programme milestones.
- Support technical reviews of:
- GA drawings
- Connection calculations
- Tekla / BIM models
- Erection methodologies
- Support alignment of design release schedules with procurement and fabrication.
- Understand impact of late information or design changes on:
- Fabrication
- Erection sequence
- Site progress
- Ensure design documentation is properly managed and version controlled.
- Maintain technical submittal trackers.
- Support the preparation of design status reports.
