Invigorate Recruitment is working with its client in Leeds to recruit an experienced Health & Safety Manager who will play a pivotal role in ensuring that our client's business provides a safe, compliant, and engaging working environment for all colleagues across their warehouse, head office, and retail operations. You'll lead their health, safety, and compliance agenda, driving continuous improvement and compliance with legislation while nurturing a positive safety culture throughout the business. You'll use your technical knowledge and people skills to manage workplace risks, oversee audits and inspections, and champion proactive prevention measures. In addition, you'll have oversight of the warehouse operation ensuring that it runs efficiently, safely, and in alignment with company standards, values, and operational goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain the company's Health & Safety Policy, ensuring compliance with all statutory regulations and HSE guidance.
- Lead on the Company Disaster Recovery Plan ensuring it is up to date and understood.
- Promote a positive safety culture across all areas of the business, engaging colleagues at all levels in ownership of safe practices.
- Conduct and oversee risk assessments, safe systems of work, and COSHH assessments, ensuring regular reviews and updates.
- Lead internal audits, site inspections, and investigations into accidents, near misses, and unsafe acts, ensuring corrective actions are implemented promptly.
- Prepare and submit RIDDOR reports and liaise with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) or other authorities as required.
- Maintain comprehensive records of H&S incidents, training, risk assessments, and investigations.
- Deliver or coordinate training, toolbox talks, and inductions, ensuring employees are fully informed and competent in their roles.
- Lead fire safety and emergency planning across all sites, ensuring drills, signage, and equipment are compliant and up to date.
- Monitor, measure, and report on key health and safety performance indicators (KPIs) to the Board, identifying trends and recommending improvements.
- Keep up to date with legislative and regulatory developments in health and safety, ensuring timely updates to internal policies and practices.
- Collaborate with the Head of Facilities to oversee environmental compliance and support sustainability initiatives across the business.
- Supporting the Warehouse Manager with operations.
Experience & Qualifications
- Essential: NEBOSH National Diploma (or equivalent) and commitment to continuous professional development.
- Chartered Member of IOSH (CMIOSH) or working towards it.
- Proven track record managing health, safety, and compliance responsibilities within a complex operational environment.
- Strong understanding of UK Health and Safety legislation, risk management, and compliance reporting.
- Excellent communication, influencing, and record-keeping skills.
- Desirable: Experience managing or overseeing warehouse or logistics operations.
