An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Mechanical Shift Leader to join the engineering team at a flagship commercial office building in Canary Wharf. Working within a modern, high-profile corporate environment, you will play a key role in ensuring the smooth operation of all mechanical and building services systems while leading a team of engineers on shift. The Role

  • Oversee all engineering activities during your shift, ensuring planned and reactive maintenance tasks are completed efficiently, safely, and in line with contractual requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise the engineering team during your shift.
  • Ensure all planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance tasks are completed to a high standard.
  • Take ownership of the site's mechanical systems, including HVAC plant and associated equipment.
  • Act as the first point of contact for technical issues and operational incidents.
  • Monitor building systems and respond effectively to faults, alarms, and emergencies.
  • Coordinate specialist contractors and ensure all works are carried out safely and compliantly.
  • Maintain accurate records, reports, and shift handover documentation.
  • Promote a strong health & safety culture and ensure compliance with site procedures and statutory regulations.
  • Build positive relationships with the client and provide a professional level of service at all times.

About You

  • Qualified in Mechanical Engineering (City & Guilds, NVQ Level 3, Apprenticeship, or equivalent).
  • Proven experience within a commercial building maintenance environment.
  • Previous experience in a supervisory, lead engineer, or shift leader position.
  • Strong technical knowledge of HVAC systems, pumps, motors, AHUs, FCUs, and mechanical plant.
  • Excellent fault-finding and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to perform effectively within a fast-paced, customer-focused environment.
