We are supporting a leading global facilities services provider in the appointment of an experienced Data Centre Technical Manager to join a large, mission-critical campus in Slough. This is a senior technical leadership role, responsible for the safe, compliant, and resilient operation of critical and non-critical engineering systems, ensuring 100% availability across a live data centre environment.
The Role
As Data Centre Technical Manager, you will act as a key extension of the senior technical leadership team, providing technical authority, risk management, and engineering leadership across the campus. You will be the technical escalation point for incidents, permits, switching, and safety, while developing and authorising a growing team of engineers. This role is suited to a strong electrically biased Technical Manager with proven experience in data centres or critical environments, who is comfortable operating under pressure and enforcing high safety and compliance standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the technical operation of critical and non-critical building services
- Act as the technical escalation point for incidents, in and out of hours
- Ensure 100% uptime and availability of critical infrastructure
- Oversee permits, RAMS, method statements, and supplier H&S compliance
- Manage and audit technical documentation, SOPs, switching schedules, and safety programmes
- Support and lead critical environment audits
- Plan and manage statutory compliance testing and reporting
- Provide technical leadership, coaching, and mentoring to site engineers
- Manage training programmes and technical sign-off for engineers and new starters
- Develop and appoint Authorised Persons (HV/LV & Confined Spaces)
- Actively manage engineering risk using CERM methodologies
- Support mock drills and incident response exercises
- Attend client meetings and provide senior technical advice
- Promote a strong safety-first culture and continuous improvement
Essential Experience & Qualifications
- Recognised electrical qualification (Apprenticeship, HND, C&G)
- 18th Edition Wiring Regulations – essential
- Proven experience in data centres or critical environments
- Strong understanding of UPS, standby power, generators, and critical cooling
- Previous management or technical leadership experience
- IOSH or equivalent H&S qualification
- Experience operating permit-to-work systems
- Strong communicator, confident in high-pressure environments
- Ability to train, authorise, and lead engineering teams
- HV Authorised Person (HVAP) with experience suitable for SAP appointment
- Strong IT and MS Office skills

- BMS controls experience
- HVAC / critical cooling experience
- Knowledge of water hygiene (L8)
- Experience with system integration and handover
- Confined Space Authorised Person experience
