We are supporting a global facilities services organisation with a strong UK footprint who are looking to appoint a Payroll Director to lead their UK & ROI payroll function. This is a senior leadership role with full accountability for end-to-end payroll operations, compliance, governance, and transformation across a large, complex workforce.
As Payroll Director, you will take ownership of the strategic and operational leadership of payroll, ensuring accurate, compliant, and efficient delivery across the UK and Republic of Ireland. You will play a key role in driving process improvement, system optimisation, and payroll transformation, while maintaining robust controls and governance. This role will suit a leader who is comfortable operating at Board and Executive level, with deep technical payroll expertise and experience managing large-scale payroll environments.
Key Responsibilities- Full accountability for end-to-end payroll operations across UK & ROI
- Ensure compliance with UK & ROI payroll legislation, tax, pensions, and statutory requirements
- Lead payroll governance, controls, and audit readiness
- Drive payroll transformation initiatives, including systems, process improvement, and automation
- Manage and develop senior payroll leadership and operational teams
- Act as the senior escalation point for complex payroll issues and risk management
- Partner with HR, Finance, Legal, and external providers to ensure seamless delivery
- Oversee payroll vendors and third-party relationships where applicable
- Deliver accurate payroll reporting, MI, and executive updates
- Proven experience in a senior payroll leadership role (Director / Head of Payroll)
- Strong expertise in UK & ROI payroll legislation and compliance
- Experience leading large-scale, complex payroll operations
- Demonstrated success in payroll transformation and change
- Strong governance, risk, and controls mindset
- Confident stakeholder engagement at Executive and Board level
- Experience within outsourced services, facilities management, or large multi-site organisations is highly advantageous
- Senior leadership role within a global organisation
