We are seeking an experienced and driven M&E Reactive Manager to lead the delivery of reactive mechanical and electrical maintenance services across London Underground assets. This is a senior operational leadership role, ideal for someone with a strong technical background in either Mechanical or Electrical engineering and proven experience managing reactive maintenance operations within critical or high-footfall environments.
You’ll be responsible for ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient reactive maintenance delivery while driving continuous improvement, operational performance, and asset reliability.
The Role
The M&E Reactive Manager is responsible for leading, managing, and continuously improving the delivery of all reactive M&E maintenance activities across the contract. You will oversee operational delivery, contractor and engineer performance, budget management, resource planning, and strategic initiatives aimed at reducing downtime and improving service levels.
Key Responsibilities
- Operational Leadership
- Lead the day-to-day management of the M&E reactive maintenance function across multiple sites
- Ensure all reactive works are completed safely, efficiently, and in line with statutory and contractual requirements
- Oversee triage, prioritisation, and allocation of reactive works to engineers and subcontractors
- Manage escalations and maintain clear communication with key stakeholders during critical incidents
- Lead, mentor, and develop M&E supervisors, engineers, and reactive maintenance teams
- Manage contractor performance through KPIs, SLAs, and regular performance reviews
- Support recruitment, onboarding, and competency assessments across the engineering workforce
- Promote a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement
- Ensure compliance with all relevant statutory regulations and industry best practice, including electrical safety, gas safety, LOLER, and F-Gas
- Work closely with Health & Safety teams to maintain safe systems of work and minimise operational risk
- Review RAMS, audits, incident reports, and near misses, implementing corrective actions where required
What We’re Looking For
Essential
- Qualified in either Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (HNC/HND or equivalent)
- Proven experience managing M&E reactive maintenance teams
- Strong understanding of statutory compliance and building services best practice
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Experience using CAFM systems and producing operational performance reports
- Strong leadership, organisational, and problem-solving abilities
