An industry-leading engineering services provider is seeking a Shift Technician with either an electrical or mechanical bias to join a critical data centre site in Slough. This is a high-performing team operating in a fast-paced, high-responsibility environment where technical skill and reliability are key.

Role Overview:

You’ll work on a prestigious data centre contract, following a continental shift pattern (days and nights). You'll carry out maintenance and fault-finding on complex systems including power, cooling, and emergency infrastructure. HV/LV training is provided within your first year, and there's scope to significantly increase your earnings through overtime.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain all building services systems on a critical site contract
  • Deliver PPM and reactive maintenance on electrical/mechanical plant
  • Operate and maintain UPS systems, generators, cooling towers, CRAC/CRAH units
  • Monitor and control critical assets via BMS/SCADA systems
  • Carry out fault diagnosis, repairs, and component replacements
  • Support HV switching operations (training provided)
  • Log maintenance tasks and incidents using CAFM systems
  • Ensure compliance with health & safety standards at all times
  • Participate in change management and incident response processes
  • Work closely with subcontractors and client representatives

Qualifications:

  • NVQ Level 3 and City & Guilds Level 3 in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
  • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (for electrical engineers)
  • Experience in a critical environment: data centres, hospitals, banking, pharma
  • Good understanding of electrical and mechanical systems: UPS, HVAC, BMS, LV panels, pumps, cooling systems, and emergency backup systems
  • HV Authorisation or willingness to undertake HV/LV training
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
  • Comfortable working continental shifts (days and nights)

  • £55,000 base salary
  • Continental shift pattern: 4 on (days), 6 off, 4 on (nights), 4 off, 3 on (days), 3 on (nights), 4 off (repeat)
  • Overtime available – boost earnings up to £70,000
