We are looking to recruit a skilled & passionate engineer to join our championship winning FIA Formula 2 team as Simulation & Development Engineer. Working alongside the Race and Performance Engineers, the successful candidate will have overall responsibility for the team’s laptime simulation - taking ownership of development and correlation of existing vehicle models. Additionally, this position will involve development of the team’s engineering capability and tools for: pre-event preparation, data and performance analysis; race strategy; reporting etc.
Role & Responsibilities
- Own and develop the existing F2 vehicle physics models
- Pre-event reporting on track sensitivities, initial build specifications & expected performance
- Calibration of model parameters and correlation with track data
- Refine tools for correlation, data analysis and optimisation
- Collaborate with trackside engineers to apply the tools and identify improvements to models and processes
- Development of engineering tools, templates and resources in collaboration with Race and Performance Engineers
Qualifications & Experience
Essential:
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering or numerate discipline
- Experience with motorsport laptime simulation tools (e.g. ChassisSim, VSM, Canopy etc)
- Experience developing & implementing mathematical models in a simulation environment
- Experience with programming languages (e.g. Matlab, Python, C etc.)
- Strong understanding of race car systems (suspension, aerodynamics, powertrain, tyres)
Desirable:
- Postgraduate qualification in a relevant discipline, especially Motorsport or Automotive Engineering
- Proficiency with motorsport data analysis software (e.g. Toolbox, i2, Wintax etc)
- Expertise in vehicle dynamics and/or tyre modelling
- Expertise in applied mathematics, ideally in several of the following areas: modelling, optimisation, parallelisation, iterative solvers, non-linear state estimation, or statistics
