Senior Lead Engineer – GCP Data Platforms & DevEx Lead

Location: London – Hybrid

Rate: up to £700 per day inside IR35

We’re seeking a hands‑on Senior engineering lead to design and deliver high‑volume financial data pipelines on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) while improving the Developer Experience (DevEx). This is a pivotal role bridging complex data architecture and high‑velocity engineering, ensuring our platforms remain secure, observable, and robust.

What You’ll Do

• Lead technical architecture and hands‑on engineering across batch data pipelines (BigQuery, Dataproc, Cloud Storage)
• Own Developer Experience (DevEx): automate environments, refine CI/CD pipelines, and reduce friction for engineering teams
• Build and optimize CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions
• Implement Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform) for secure, scalable cloud environments
• Integrate database change management tools like Liquibase into automated pipelines
• Apply DevSecOps best practices across the lifecycle: static analysis, dependency scanning, and secure credential management
• Ensure observability, monitoring, and performance using GCP Operations Suite or New Relic
• Mentor engineers and collaborate across global, distributed teams

What We’re Looking For

• Proven experience in Lead Engineer, DevOps, or SRE roles with technical leadership
• Expert‑level CI/CD automation and pipeline optimization
• Strong GCP expertise: BigQuery, Dataproc, Cloud Composer
• Deep data architecture and engineering knowledge: Spark, DBT, Oracle, BigQuery
• Skilled in observability, monitoring, and DevSecOps integration
• Excellent communication with a record of collaborating globally
