The Financial Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, supporting timely and compliant financial reporting, and operating within a strong financial control environment. The role plays a key part in the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring reliable financial information is produced, while supporting continuous improvement within the financial control function.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver the month-end close process, ensuring journals are prepared, reviewed, and posted accurately and within agreed deadlines, with appropriate supporting documentation maintained. This includes areas such as revenue, overheads, accruals, and prepayments.
  • Prepare and complete balance sheet reconciliations in line with agreed timetables, ensuring accuracy, transparency, and timely resolution of reconciling items.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards and internal policies.
  • Manage and coordinate company secretarial submissions and administration, ensuring accuracy and timelines.
  • Prepare financial reports and supporting analysis as required.
  • Support external audit processes, responding to queries and providing documentation within agreed timeframes.
  • Investigate and resolve finance-related queries, including those relating to journals, reconciliations, and other ad hoc matters.
  • Monitor and maintain key financial controls, ensuring a clear and auditable trail is in place.
  • Complete VAT returns and assist with other tax-related activities as required.

Experience & Attributes

  • Demonstrated experience supporting month-end close processes, with the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines.
  • Experience working within a financial control and reporting environment.
  • Familiarity with audit processes and working with external auditors.
  • Understanding of accounting principles and standards.
  • Working knowledge of VAT and relevant tax considerations.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify and resolve variances.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
