Are you an experienced HR change professional that has managed complex organisational redesign within the University sector? Are you confident and capable of building positive, productive working relationships with Trade Unions? Have you had extensive experience managing restructures and complex employee relations cases? If you’re looking for a long-term contract opportunity to work on a large scale change project, as part of a high performing HR programme team then this could be a great contract for you.

This well-known London University has gone through significant change and transformation over the last 12 months following a merger in 2024. Over the next 18 months they will continue to embed and integrate their Professional Service functions and Academic Schools/Departments, and thus the HR Directorate will play a pivotal role in this transformation, focused on delivering this change in line with the new Target Operating Model.

The Role

As a HR Change Manager, you will join a small HR Transformation team, leading and managing the people aspects of the integration process, particularly the merger of Professional Services Directorates. You will work closely with Directors and the Change Support Unit to design, implement, and monitor change initiatives, ensuring alignment with the University’s strategic goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead Change Initiatives: Manage integration and restructuring processes, ensuring effective execution and minimising the impact on staff.
  • Consultation and Engagement: Overseeing communication and consultation processes.
  • Develop Change Proposals: Support and advise on change proposals, focusing on employee relations and organisational implications.
  • Strategic HR Support: Provide guidance on performance management, redundancy, redeployment, and role restructuring.
  • Trade Union Relations: Lead consultations with trade unions to maintain strong relationships.
  • Training and Resources: Develop and deliver training for managers, and provide guides and FAQs to assist during integration.
  • Employee Wellbeing: Ensure support mechanisms are in place for employees impacted by changes, and monitor wellbeing.
  • Risk Management: Assess and manage risks associated with employee relations issues, and provide regular updates to senior leadership.

We’re looking for seasoned HR professionals that have led on change as a senior/strategic HR business partner or HR project manager within large complex organisations, and can operate within a small, agile programme team. Experience and understanding of the university sector is preferable given the nature and complexity of the different organisational redesign and restructuring required. Strong project management and communication skills will also be vital to this role’s success, as well as the ability to manage complex employee relations matters and work effectively with the 3 recognised trade unions.

Please note, the hybrid working policy is 3 days onsite, primarily from the central London campus. However, occasional travel to the alternative campuses in South London will be required as per business needs.
