We're working with a client who is taking their SOC back from an external provider. They need someone who can build an internal SecOps function that actually works. Someone who’s been technical, is still technical, and has no intention of becoming a PowerPoint‑only lifeform. But also isn't averse to sitting in a room with Identity and GRC people.

Your mission:

  • Stand up and run the Cyber Defence Operation for a global organisation with a lot to protect.
  • Create and test incident response runbooks using frameworks like MITRE ATT&CK.
  • Define the operational strategy, KPIs, reporting and continuous improvement roadmap.
  • Own the tooling strategy for detection, monitoring, observability and containment.
  • Evaluate and improve security controls across the estate - and explain the impact of new technologies without resorting to buzzwords.
  • Manage threat intel feeds and prioritise them based on actual risk, not vendor enthusiasm.
  • Shape vulnerability management and pen‑testing so it’s proactive, not performative.
  • Build and mentor a small, high‑calibre team.
  • Use MSSPs intelligently - as force multipliers, not crutches.

You’ll bring:

  • Leadership experience in SecOps within complex environments.
  • Strong experience with SIEM, SOAR and AWS‑based monitoring.
  • Real hands‑on experience with security technologies.
  • Familiarity with compliance frameworks like ISO 27001.
  • Experience managing risk and designing pragmatic controls.

If you want to build something from the ground up - and you still enjoy getting your hands dirty - this is the one.
