Overview

You’ll be supporting the Credit Manager in overseeing the day-to-day credit and collections process, taking responsibility for more complex accounts and acting as the go-to for escalations. Alongside managing your own portfolio, you’ll provide guidance to junior colleagues, help refine processes, and ensure the business maintains a strong cashflow position.

It’s a hands-on role with added responsibility — ideal if you’re looking for that next step up without moving into a full management role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of high-value and complex accounts, ensuring timely collection and reduced aged debt.
  • Support and guide junior members of the credit control team, sharing best practice and acting as an escalation point.
  • Review credit applications, limits, and risk assessments in line with company policy.
  • Resolve complex queries and disputes, working with commercial teams, surveyors, and clients.
  • Prepare and present reports on debt position, risk exposure, and collections performance.
  • Contribute to process improvements, helping to drive greater efficiency and consistency across the team.

About You

My client is looking for someone who has already built strong credit control experience and is ready for that next challenge. You’ll need:

  • Solid experience in credit control.
  • Confidence in handling complex accounts and influencing stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of credit risk management, debt recovery and accounting principles.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
  • ERP system experience (NetSuite preferred) and strong Excel ability.
  • Knowledge of construction contracts (progress billing, applications, retentions) is essential.
