Group Tax Manager

We’re supporting a fast-growing, acquisitive organisation in the search for a Group Tax Manager to take ownership of all direct and indirect tax matters across a large, complex UK group. This is a key role for an experienced tax professional who can strengthen governance, enhance controls and deliver robust, consistent compliance while partnering closely with senior stakeholders.

The Group Tax Manager will lead corporate tax, VAT and operational tax requirements, ensuring accurate reporting, efficient processes and strong oversight across multiple entities. You’ll operate with a high level of autonomy, resolving the majority of tax matters in-house while drawing on external expertise for complex issues. The role also plays a central part in M&A activity, integration projects and ongoing group simplification.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ownership of UK corporation tax and VAT compliance, including tax computations, disclosures and statutory filings.
  • Managing tax accounting, transfer pricing, interest deductibility (CIR/thin cap), R&D claims and Quarterly Instalment Payments.
  • Providing tax guidance across the business, identifying risks, improving processes and supporting strategic planning.
  • Leading tax workstreams for acquisitions, assessing tax risks and integrating new entities into group processes.
  • Oversight of tax governance including SAO, CCO, tax risk registers and HMRC relationship management.
  • Enhancing tax controls, strengthening documentation and exploring opportunities to improve efficiency through technology.

About You

  • CTA/ACA/ACCA qualified with strong corporate tax and VAT experience gained in large, complex or PE-backed environments.
  • Comfortable operating as a standalone tax lead, with the ability to manage multiple entities and deliver high-quality outputs under tight deadlines.
  • Commercially minded with the confidence to influence senior stakeholders and provide clear, pragmatic tax advice.
  • Strong technical capability, excellent communication skills and an ability to build tax awareness across finance and operational teams.
