We are seeking experienced Police Sergeants and Detective Sergeants to join the Force on a permanent basis. This is a rare opportunity to work in a close-knit, professional policing environment with an attractive benefits package and a four-year relocation allowance.
Summary of the Position:
Police Sergeants and Detective Sergeants play a vital role within Bailiwick of Guernsey Law Enforcement, providing first-line supervision and leadership across both uniformed and investigative teams. These roles are central to maintaining the island\βs reputation for exceptional policing, community engagement, and professional standards.
Whether leading a response team on the front line or managing complex investigations, you\βll ensure that every member of your team delivers high-quality policing with integrity and professionalism. Working closely with Inspectors, you\βll provide guidance, mentorship, and operational direction β supporting your officers to deliver excellence every day.

Key Responsibilities:
- Provide first-line supervision and direction to uniformed or investigative officers, ensuring operational effectiveness and adherence to policy.
- Take command of incidents or investigations, applying sound judgement and leadership under pressure.
- Oversee and develop investigations, ensuring accurate, timely, and ethical outcomes.
- Support the development, performance, and wellbeing of officers under your supervision.
- Undertake Custody Officer duties when required, ensuring welfare and compliance with legislation.
- Engage positively with partner agencies and the community to enhance public confidence and crime prevention.
- Maintain high standards of integrity, professionalism, and conduct at all times.
Key Skills/Experience Required:
- Substantive Police Sergeant or Detective Sergeant (or currently acting at that rank).
- Proven leadership and supervisory experience within operational or investigative policing.
- Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills, particularly under pressure.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, able to build trust and credibility with colleagues and the community.
- High standard of written reporting, case management, and organisational skills.
- Flexibility to work across a 24/7 shift pattern and adapt to operational requirements.
Preferred Qualifications/Experience:
- Demonstrable experience in response, neighbourhood, or investigative policing.
- Experience mentoring or coaching officers, with a commitment to professional development.
- Comprehensive understanding of legislation, codes of practice, and evidence handling.
- Current valid driving licence.
