Investigo Government Solutions (IGS) are working in partnership with The Falkland Islands Government (FIG) and are looking for a new Chief of Police. You will join the Royal Falkland Islands Police, part of the Directorate of Emergency Services & Islands Security. THE ROLE
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Royal Falkland Islands Police for a positive and dynamic Chief Police Officer to join the team. The Directorate is keen to appoint as soon as possible. The role reports to H.E Governor and the Director of Emergency Services and Island Security. You will meet many challenges leading a national police service in the context of limited resources; the Royal Falkland Islands Police being responsible for delivering all policing activity across the Falkland Islands.
The postholder will be directly responsible for leadership across all policing including the disciplines of community policing, safeguarding, and criminal investigation, ensuring our values of respect, integrity and fairness are upheld. The Falkland Islands have a diverse community and a unique culture; this combined with the breadth of the role makes it an interesting and challenging post. Policing is based on a traditional UK model and Falkland Islands Ordinance is similar to and based on UK legislation.
With a significant military presence in the Islands, you will benefit from a close working relationship with the British Forces South Atlantic Islands (BFSAI). The Chief Police Officer is a member of the Directorate Senior Leadership Team and as such will be expected to fully engage with other heads of function in a collaborative and collegiate way.
The ideal candidate will be a successful and experienced manager or expert adviser in the UK policing professional profiles. You will be responsible for leading the continued evolution of the Royal Falkland Islands Police and for leading a police service that is comprised of local, reserve and overseas constables. You will play a key role in policy development and delivery following recent cultural and technical audits of the service. You will also be flexible and adaptable to work in a multi-agency arena to UK JESIP doctrine.
The successful candidate will have:
- Significant (10+) years of successful UK Police experience, including a minimum of 5 years as an experienced manager or expert adviser in the UK policing professional profiles. (If returning to policing this experience must have been within the past 36 months)
- Experience of leading, monitoring and supporting staff to resolve operational incidents, including coordinating a multi-agency response according to JESIP principles
- Ability to demonstrate a successful track record of achievement across a broad range of police functions
- Experience of managing, planning, and developing resource plans and working patterns that are optimal in its use of resources and deliver best value
- The ability to enforce discipline and develop, maintain and enforce high standards of professional behaviour
- Outstanding leadership demonstrating empathy, compassion, and respect for all
- Ability to implement organisational strategy
- Personal integrity with the ability to demonstrate high personal standards
- Ability to manage change in the workplace and demonstrate commitment to taking forward the professionalisation agenda
- Ability to communicate effectively at all levels and use a wide range of communication techniques
- Ability to work in a complex political and stakeholder environment and ability to develop strong effective strategic relationships
The Package
- Competitive Salary, a total package of £76,474 to £114,124 per annum (depending on qualifications and experience), which includes a Flexible Duty Allowance and 25% (taxable) Gratuity, paid upon successful completion of the contract.
