About InvestEngine
InvestEngine is everything the modern investor should need: unbeatable value, market-leading automation, and a platform built for easy, long-term investing.
We’ve built a strong foundation, with over £3.5 billion invested, award-winning service, and a passionate team. We’re product first, with several product lines, a steady flow of new features and multiple marketing channels — and our Finance function needs to scale with us.
About the Role
We’re looking for a Head of Commercial Finance to join our Finance team. This is a senior, very hands‑on individual contributor role with no direct reports: you’ll build the model and the P&Ls yourself.
Your mission is to build and own the financial model of the whole of InvestEngine: how we make money, how we spend it, and the unit economics of every product, channel and department. You’ll bring financial accountability and discipline, put money at the heart of our goals, give leaders self‑serve access to their numbers, sharpen our path to profitability and make our financials credible to strategic investors.
You’ll report to Marc de Gentile-Williams and work closely with our CEO, product owners, Marketing and department heads.
What You’ll Do
-
Build and own one driver-based model of the business, linking clients, AUA, flows, revenue margin and cost per client to P&L, balance sheet, cash and regulatory capital
-
Create a P&L and budget for every department, each with a named budget holder, and review performance and variances with them monthly
-
Build product P&Ls (pensions, business, individual investors, trading and more) on a clear cost allocation method, with unit economics for each product line and marketing channel: revenue per client, cost to serve, CAC, LTV, payback and contribution margin
-
Write business cases for new features and launches, and track them against actuals after release
-
Make sure every company and team goal has a clear cost or revenue impact, and build the annual budget from those goals
-
Give leaders self‑serve access to their P&L, KPIs and scenarios through the model and dashboards
-
Make our model, P&Ls and KPIs ready for investor due diligence, and produce the KPI dashboard for every Board meeting
-
Own the 13-week cash forecast, runway view and inputs to ICARA and going‑concerne assessments
What We’re Looking For
-
Ideally 7+ years in FP&A or commercial finance
-
Experience in a product-led digital company — essential
-
You have personally designed and run department and product P&Ls, including allocating shared costs
-
You build assumptions from how the business works, not last year plus a percentage
-
Strong driver-based modelling: clear, auditable models others can use
-
Experience building business cases and working with Marketing on channel economics
-
Confidence challenging senior leaders on assumptions and spend without line authority — a partner, not a policeman
-
The ability to turn analysis into concise recommendations for non-finance leaders and the Board
-
Comfortable with modern tools: dashboards, automation and AI to speed up analysis
-
English fluency at C1 level or above — we are a UK-based company and the role involves regular communication across the business
Nice to Have
-
Financial services, fintech or investment platform experience (strongly preferred)
-
Experience preparing models and KPIs for investors or due diligence
-
Xero (or strong experience with comparable systems)
-
ACA, ACCA or CIMA (qualified or part-qualified)
Month-end close and statutory accounts are outside this role: you’ll use actuals rather than produce them.
How We Work
We’re a lean, fast-moving team that values clarity, ownership and transparency.
You’ll have the freedom to improve how things work, the responsibility to follow through, and the backing of a team that values clear thinking and open dialogue. We believe in solving problems at the root rather than simply treating the symptoms.
What We Offer
Impact from day one
Your model and P&Ls will shape how leadership, the Board and investors see the business.
Room to grow
As InvestEngine scales, you’ll help shape how commercial finance works across the company.
Transparent and open culture
We share information openly, keep communication clear and encourage collaboration across the business.
Supportive, high-calibre team
You’ll work alongside talented people who care about both the quality of their work and the success of the wider team.
Our Hiring Process
-
Introductory call with our Talent team
-
Interview with the hiring manager
-
Case study: a product P&L or business case, presented back
-
Final interview with our CEO
We aim to keep the process straightforward, transparent and efficient.
