Infinite opportunities.
At Viasat, we’re on a mission to deliver connections with the capacity to change the world.
For more than 35 years, Viasat has helped shape how consumers, businesses, governments and militaries around the globe communicate.
We’re looking for people who think big, act fearlessly, and create an inclusive environment that drives positive impact to join our team.
What you'll do
Corporate Data & Analytics designs, builds, and maintains the data platforms that keep our business running.
We manage the reporting tools, data pipelines, and analytics systems relied on across the company every day.
Our work covers Google Cloud Platform (GCP), BI platforms, data engineering tooling, and reliability processes - all with a focus on stability, modernization, and continuous improvement.
This role plays a key part in keeping these platforms healthy, reliable, and continuously evolving.
We're looking for an experienced Data Engineer who can act as a trusted technical partner to our team.
The role combines hands‑on engineering with solution design and rapid prototyping of new data products and services; all with a strong focus on AI led development.
You will help shape the future state of our data ecosystem by designing and implementing data solutions, evaluating tools and approaches, and helping translate business requirements into practical technical solutions.
You will work closely with stakeholders across Corporate Data & Analytics, IT, and the wider business to identify opportunities, validate concepts, and deliver high‑value data capabilities.
In addition to design and delivery responsibilities, you will provide technical support and contribute to the ongoing evolution of our Big Query, Airbyte, Prefect, dbt, AI, and analytics platforms.
In this role you will
- Support daily platform operations across Big Query, Airbyte, Prefect, dbt, and related analytics systems.
- Contribute to program governance, modernization activities, observability improvements, and platform hardening.
- Assist with monitoring, SRE practices, L3 incident support, and uptime/data quality tracking.
- Provide reporting and analytics support, including validations, schedules, permissions, and catalogue maintenance.
This is a site based role; employees work 3+ days (60%+) per week from the London Viasat office within a standard five‑day workweek.
The day-to-day
Although no two days are the same, you will
- Contribute to technical discovery, prototyping, and solution design for new data products and platform capabilities.
- Help design scalable data pipelines and data services using modern cloud-native patterns.
- Collaborate with engineers and stakeholders to evaluate approaches and solve technical challenges.
- Support platform reliability, operational excellence, and major incident resolution where required.
- Produce and maintain architecture diagrams, technical designs, and engineering documentation.
- What you'll need
- Strong experience designing and implementing modern cloud-based data platforms (GCP preferred).
- Strong SQL and Python engineering skills.
- Experience building and operating ELT/ETL solutions using tools such as dbt, Airbyte, Prefect, or equivalent.
- AI‑assisted coding and automation (Claude Code preferred)
- Experience with monitoring tools and ITSM platforms (Service Now or similar).
- Experience contributing to solution design, and translating business requirements into effective data solutions.
- Ability to evaluate technologies and recommend practical approaches to solving business and technical problems.
- Experience working with AI-assisted software engineering and rapid prototyping techniques.
- What will help you on the job
- Understanding of SRE concepts (SLO/SLI’s, uptime, alerts, MTTR).
- Experience with GCP Dev Ops, Git Hub, YAML, AI assisted coding, and basic repo/pull request workflows.
- Exposure to Terraform and scripting (Python, Power Shell, Bash).
- Flexible, collaborative mindset with curiosity, adaptability, and willingness to learn new tools and practices.
