A confidential appointment on behalf of a high-profile private individual with business interests across media, manufacturing and hospitality. The Assistant Accountant will support the Finance Director in maintaining the day-to-day financial operations of a busy private office, with a particular focus on high-volume transactional processing, VAT compliance, and accurate bookkeeping across multiple businesses and entities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Reconcile a high volume of bank (and equivalent) transactions efficiently across multiple entities, ensuring timely coding and approval.
  • Manage accounts payable and receivable ledgers, including supplier statement reconciliations and chasing of outstanding balances.
  • Process employee expenses, credit card reconciliations, and petty cash.
  • Prepare and submit quarterly VAT returns across multiple entities, ensuring accuracy and compliance with HMRC requirements.
  • Maintain VAT records, reconcile VAT control accounts, and support any VAT queries or inspections as required.
  • Assist with payroll processing and liaise with external payroll providers to ensure timely and accurate payments.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date ledgers; perform regular bank reconciliations across multiple accounts and currencies.
  • Support the Finance Manager in the preparation of monthly management accounts, accruals, prepayments, and journals.
  • Producing management accounts for one or more allocated businesses, including Balance Sheet support and P&L movement analytical reviews.
  • Maintain Fixed Assets schedules across the group.
  • Assist with year-end close processes and liaise with auditors to provide supporting documentation as required.
  • Handle all financial matters with absolute discretion and confidentiality at all times.

Skills & Experience

  • Part-qualified or AAT-qualified accountant; actively studying towards ACA, ACCA, or CIMA preferred.
  • Solid experience in a transactional finance or assistant accountant role, ideally within a private office, media, entertainment, or multi-entity environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of VAT legislation and experience preparing VAT returns.
  • High attention to detail with the ability to process large volumes of transactions accurately and at pace.
  • Proficient in Xero and confident in Excel.
