An international law firm is looking to appoint a Junior Associate to join its highly regarded Projects, Development & Construction team in London.
This is an excellent opportunity for an NQβ2 PQE construction lawyer to join a well-established practice with a strong reputation across construction, development and major projects, working on sophisticated matters for leading developers, investors, funders, contractors and institutional clients.
The Role
The successful candidate will join a specialist non-contentious Construction and Projects team advising clients throughout the lifecycle of major development and infrastructure projects.
The practice works across a particularly broad range of sectors, including:
- Real estate and commercial property
- Residential development, housing and accommodation
- Property investment
- Regeneration and large-scale development
- Energy and renewables
- Healthcare and care
- Hotels and leisure
- Education
- Infrastructure and major projects
- Sustainability and emerging sectors
The team advises clients from the earliest stages of a project, helping to develop procurement and contracting strategies before negotiating and documenting the relevant arrangements.
Work & Responsibilities
The role will involve a broad range of non-contentious construction and development work, including:
- Drafting and negotiating construction and development agreements
- Procurement and contracting strategy
- Construction due diligence
- Development agreements and project documentation
- Advising on standard form and bespoke construction contracts
- Construction appointments and consultant agreements
- Joint ventures and partnering arrangements
- Large-scale regeneration and infrastructure projects
- Energy and renewables projects
- Advising on contractual risk allocation and project delivery
The team regularly works with JCT, NEC, EPC and EPCM forms, alongside bespoke agreements and multi-party contracting structures.
Associates will also have the opportunity to advise on issues arising during live projects, including payment, delay, extensions of time, contractual rights and obligations, termination and insolvency-related issues.
While the practice has significant expertise in resolving construction issues, the focus of this role is predominantly non-contentious, with an emphasis on helping clients manage risk, negotiate effectively and avoid disputes wherever possible.
Client Base & Quality of Work
The team acts for a diverse client base including:
- Public sector and institutional clients
- Property owners and investors
- Developers
- Funders
- Contractors and specialist subcontractors
- Suppliers
- Construction and design consultants
- Major businesses undertaking development and infrastructure projects
The work is predominantly UK-focused, although the team also advises on international projects across multiple jurisdictions, working alongside trusted international counsel and consultants where appropriate.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will be:
- NQβ2 PQE
- Qualified as a solicitor in England & Wales
- Trained or experienced within a construction, projects or housing/development practice
- Primarily experienced in non-contentious construction
- Comfortable working with standard form construction contracts and appointments
- Ideally familiar with JCT, NEC and EPC forms, including amendments and market norms
- Interested in developing experience across construction, development and major projects
- Commercially minded with strong drafting and negotiation skills
- Keen to take on increasingly complex and bespoke agreements with appropriate supervision
