Hours: Shift-based, working to a rota of shifts and sleep-in shifts

About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Senior Residential Support Worker to provide high-quality care and support to children and young people with complex trauma, attachment needs, and behavioural difficulties living in residential placements. This is a hands-on role combining direct care responsibilities with leadership duties. You will support the day-to-day running of shifts, provide guidance to Residential Support Workers, and help ensure the home delivers safe, nurturing, and trauma-informed care. Working within a therapeutic environment, you will support young people to build positive relationships, develop emotional resilience, and achieve positive outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality care and support to children and young people.
  • Lead shifts and support the effective day-to-day operation of the home.
  • Act as a role model for good practice and professional standards.
  • Support and supervise Residential Support Workers during shifts.
  • Assist with the induction and development of new team members.
  • Promote a calm, nurturing, and structured environment.
  • Support emotional regulation using trauma-informed approaches, including PACE and DDP principles.
  • Respond appropriately to incidents, safeguarding concerns, and behavioural challenges.
  • Ensure safeguarding and child protection procedures are followed at all times.
  • Complete and oversee accurate daily records, incident reports, handovers, and care documentation.
  • Support care planning, risk assessments, and behaviour management strategies.
  • Work closely with managers and the wider team to ensure continuity of care and positive outcomes for young people.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming home environment.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years' experience within children's residential childcare.
  • NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (essential).
  • Experience supporting or supervising staff within a residential setting.
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding and residential childcare practice.
  • Ability to lead shifts and make confident decisions when required.
  • Calm, patient, and emotionally resilient approach.
  • Strong communication, organisational, and record-keeping skills.
  • Commitment to professional boundaries, confidentiality, and high standards of care.
