At Intrum, you will grow by making a difference in a highly international environment and in a supportive culture where effort counts. Technology is transforming the way we support customers and clients across the financial ecosystem. We are investing in modern platforms, intelligent automation, AI-enabled capabilities, and engineering excellence to create secure, scalable, and insight-led digital solutions.

We are looking for a Principal Software Development Engineer to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our customer-facing digital platforms and technology solutions. This is an opportunity to guide technical direction at scale, influence engineering strategy, and build resilient customer-facing platforms that make a real impact within a highly regulated environment.

You will work across cloud-native architectures, microservices, AI-assisted engineering practices, and modern DevSecOps delivery models — collaborating with talented engineers, product teams, and senior stakeholders to support innovation and operational excellence. This role has the added flexibility of hybrid working with travel to our UK offices in Manchester, Reigate or Glasgow, as required.

If you are passionate about modern engineering, thrive in complex environments, and want the freedom to shape how technology evolves, we would love to hear from you.

What you will do:
  • Guide the architecture, design, and development of scalable customer and client platforms, implementing microservices and integrations across AWS & Azure.
  • Set technical direction and engineering standards across teams, promoting modern cloud-native and AI-augmented engineering practices.
  • Mentor and support Software Development Engineers and Forward Deployed Engineers, building capability and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Support DevSecOps excellence through CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code, automation frameworks, and database-as-code practices using Redgate Flyway.
  • Take ownership of critical customer systems, ensuring operational resilience, observability, performance optimisation, and rapid incident response.
  • Collaborate closely with Product, Delivery, Operations, and Commercial teams to shape technical solutions, delivery plans, and strategic outcomes.
  • Promote secure-by-design, compliance-by-design, and privacy-by-design approaches, ensuring alignment with UK GDPR and FCA Consumer Duty requirements.
  • Guide the adoption of intelligent platform capabilities, including AI-enabled workflows, automation, and smart customer engagement solutions.
What we are looking for:
  • Extensive experience in software engineering, including experience operating at Principal Engineer or senior technical guidance level.
  • Expert knowledge of .NET, React, SQL, microservices architecture, and cloud platforms, ideally AWS.
  • Strong experience with CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code, DevSecOps practices, and test automation.
  • Experience working with customer contact platforms such as AWS Connect or Genesys Cloud.
  • Proven ability to design and deliver secure, scalable, and resilient cloud-native solutions within complex enterprise environments.
  • Strong understanding of observability, operational support, reliability engineering, and end-to-end ownership practices.
  • Knowledge of regulated financial services environments, including UK GDPR and FCA Consumer Duty requirements.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence technical direction and collaborate across multiple teams and functions.

You will have the opportunity to shape the future of customer technology within a business investing heavily in digital transformation, AI capability, and modern engineering excellence. At Intrum, you will have the freedom to innovate, the support to grow, and the opportunity to work on technology that delivers meaningful outcomes for both clients and customers.

What we offer:
  • A competitive salary and attractive benefits package including 33 days holidays including bank holidays upon commencement, with the ability to buy more or sell back.
  • Training and coaching for your personal development/progression, and employee recognition programmes to help you grow in your career.
  • Access to private medical insurance, life assurance, and more.
  • Discounts on gym memberships, cycle to work schemes, and a 24/7 employee assistance programme.
  • Sociable working hours and breakfast/snacks provided in the office.
  • A supportive, open, and value-driven culture.
