We are looking for an experienced and reliable Class 2 HGV Driver to join our commercial waste collection team. The successful candidate will be responsible for safely operating waste collection vehicles, carrying out commercial waste collections from customer sites, and ensuring all work is completed efficiently and in accordance with company procedures and legal requirements.

The role involves driving a Class 2 vehicle, operating waste collection equipment, completing daily vehicle checks, and providing a professional service to commercial customers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely operate Class 2 HGV waste collection vehicles.
  • Carry out scheduled commercial waste collections and deliveries.
  • Collect and transport general, recyclable and other commercial waste in accordance with company procedures.
  • Safely operate vehicle-mounted equipment and waste-loading systems where required.
  • Complete daily vehicle safety checks and report any defects or maintenance issues.
  • Ensure waste is securely contained and transported safely.
  • Follow designated routes and collection schedules.
  • Complete all required paperwork, electronic records and waste documentation accurately.
  • Ensure collections are completed efficiently and within allocated timeframes.
  • Maintain a professional and courteous manner when dealing with customers and members of the public.
  • Follow all relevant health and safety, environmental and waste-management regulations.
  • Keep the vehicle clean, tidy and in a roadworthy condition.
  • Report accidents, incidents, vehicle defects or operational issues promptly.
  • Work closely with loaders, supervisors and the transport team.
  • Comply with company policies, driver regulations and the Highway Code.

Essential Requirements

  • Valid Class 2 (Category C) HGV licence.
  • Valid Driver CPC qualification.
  • Valid Digital Tachograph Card.
  • Good knowledge of UK roads and driving regulations.
  • Previous HGV driving experience.
  • Good understanding of vehicle safety and daily defect checks.
  • Reliable, punctual and responsible approach to work.
  • Physically capable of working in a waste collection environment.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Good communication and customer-service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
