The Healthcare Vaccinator will work as part of a multidisciplinary Immunisation Team, in varied settings but not limited to Schools, community clinical and Immunisation sites (e.g., COVID-19 vaccine and mass school vaccination programmes) working to National protocol and PSDs, delivering a safe effective service. While working under the supervision of a Registered Health Care Professional, will prepare and administer vaccines to patients of all age groups including adults and children of school age. The role will be required to undertake intramuscular, nasal and oral vaccinations including all vaccination routes.

Main duties of the job Responsibilities

  • Workload will be generated by Clinical Leads based on service needs, including the delegation of administrative tasks to clinical staff if required.
  • Undertake routine and specialised tasks for which training and competency assessments have been completed.
  • Confirm patient identity and verify their willingness to proceed with vaccination. Address any questions or refer to the registered healthcare professional as appropriate.
  • Ensure the patient is comfortable, offer a seat if necessary, and position them appropriately for vaccination.
  • Assess the clients readiness for vaccination, addressing concerns, and confirming consent and clinical assessment.
  • Administer vaccines via all approved routes in accordance with training, protocols, and standards to pre-consented individuals.
  • Observe and assess client reactions immediately post-vaccination. Direct individuals to the observation area or alert a registered healthcare professional in case of complications.
  • Raise concerns with registered healthcare professionals regarding emergencies such as anaphylaxis, faints, or panic attacks.
  • Check vaccines and expiry dates before administration and report any concerns, ensuring batch numbers are accurately recorded.
  • Use and dispose of PPE and clinical/non-clinical waste following infection control procedures and national guidelines.
  • Take accountability for vaccine administration, including aftercare instructions and reminders for additional doses if applicable.
