Responsibilities

  • Provide safe delivery of a quality immunisations service.
  • Identify, prioritise and implement programmes of care that meet the patients’ needs.
  • Take into account risk and its effective management, e.g. consent, side effects.
  • Ensure safe storage, rotation and disposal of vaccines and drugs.
  • Ensure proper transport and cold chain procedures for vaccines.
  • Practice infection‑control measures according to local and national guidelines.
  • Work in accordance with GDPR policy and keep clear, accurate patient records.
  • Communicate effectively with team members, parents, carers and school staff.
  • Recognise and work within own competence and the professional code of conduct as regulated by the NMC.
  • Work with administration team and school staff at immunisation sessions, acting as lead clinician.
  • Support and participate in shared learning and networking across other immunisation teams.
  • Understand and apply legal policy that supports the safeguarding of children and adults.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and statutory requirements.

Experience

  • Evidence of professional development.
  • Experience working alone and as part of a team.
  • Experience delivering travel vaccinations and childhood immunisations (desirable).
  • Experience with school‑aged children (desirable).
  • Experience supervising Health Care Assistants (desirable).
  • Safeguarding children level 2 (desirable).

Qualifications

  • Current Registered Nurse with the NMC (essential).
  • Up to date CPR and anaphylaxis training (desirable).
  • Foundation immunisation training (desirable).
  • Additional desirable qualifications: broad range of clinical skills, effective written and verbal communication skills, ability to work under own initiative, flexibility, enthusiasm, commitment to high standards of care, willingness to travel, full driving licence.

Learning and Development

  • Undertake all mandatory and statutory training requirements.
  • Take responsibility for CPD and keep up to date with current practices and research‑led developments.
