To work as a Community Pharmacy Manager, to provide an efficient and safe pharmaceutical service. To provide advice and support to patients, relatives, and other healthcare professionals involved in the patients care. To act under the direction of the Superintendent Pharmacist and Director of Pharmacy. Delivery of all Essential, advanced and essential services within the Community Pharmacy. To assist in the delivery of all Local services offered by the pharmacy, which have been commissioned by the CCG, Public Health department and Local Health authority (or successor organisations). To effectively manage the pharmacy team to achieve all KPIs. To deliver an outstanding service to patients. To maintain appropriate stock levels of all items in the pharmacy. To comply with all legal and NHS requirements including record keeping. Work as part of the Community Pharmacy Division.

Main duties of the job

  • Clinical Practice: Perform all duties required within, or on behalf of the community pharmacy. This includes all Essential, Additional and Enhanced services which are locally or nationally commissioned. Develop and lead the pharmacy team. Achieve Key Performance Indicators as set by the company. Oversee the safe and effective operation of the pharmacy. Follow national and local guidance at all times, with particular regard to Medicines, Ethics in Practice (MEP), current addition. Work under direction of the pharmacy Standard Operating Procedures. Take part in sale or supply of medicines and goods, including over the counter sales. Comply with the requirements for the sale or supply of all medicines as required by the Medicines Act. Maintain stocks at an appropriate level of all medication and appliances, within the pharmacy, to meet patient demands.
  • Communication: Provide advice and support to patients and their relatives and carers as appropriate. Build good relationships with practices and other prescribers and healthcare professionals (e.g., GPs, community pharmacists, district nurses etc.) to facilitate patient care. Communicate effectively with the patient, relatives, carers, and all members of the healthcare team. Provide counsel to patients appropriately upon medication issues and throughout their care, providing advice and written support where appropriate. Promote and enhance the reputation of IntraHealth Pharmacy.
  • Delivering a quality service: Work in accordance with professional group code of conduct. Be aware of and comply with employment legislation and codes of good practice. Comply with all company and practice infection prevention and control policies, including hand hygiene, personal hygiene, environmental and food hygiene. Report any significant events within the time frame set out in the company policy. Follow current MEP and local guidance with regard to Community pharmacy issues and alerts.
  • Team Working: Work as part of the community pharmacy team and wider team of healthcare professionals, fielding queries and offering advice. Support and help develop colleagues and other members of the community pharmacy team. Adaptively work flexibly according to team / clinical needs.
  • Management of risk: Co‑operate with Management in discharging responsibilities under the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 and take reasonable health and safety of self and others, ensuring agreed safety procedures are carried out. Report all adverse events and significant events in accordance with agreed procedures and participate in improvement activities to reduce reoccurrence. Secure personal, staff, stock, cash and premises security at all times and before leaving the pharmacy.
  • Managing information: Maintain appropriate records. Confidentiality: During the course of employment, may have access to confidential information; must not disclose such information, particularly that relating to patients and staff. Data Protection: Must not at any time use personal data for unauthorized purposes or disclosures, including data to a third party.
  • Learning and Development: Ensure continuing personal development is maintained and relevant to role. Complete accredited courses to enable all aspects of NHS pharmacy contract can be carried out including Essential, Additional and Enhanced services and locally commissioned services.

Person Specification

  • Qualifications: Registered Pharmacist. Current GPhC registration. Evidence of continuous professional development. Work without direct supervision.
  • Experience: Previous community Pharmacy Management experience. Previous Health Care experience.
  • Skills and Abilities: Ability to effectively lead and manage the pharmacy team. Ability to work both as a team member and independently. Ability to plan own workload with priorities and objectives. Demonstrate understanding of Data Protection Act and patient confidentiality, clinical and information governance and Caldicott requirements. Proven verbal and written communication skills in English. Current driving licence and access to a car. Knowledge of PMR systems. Basic IT literacy – use of e‑mail, the internet and word processing.
