We have a fantastic new job opportunity for an Approved Premises Manager who has a Diploma in Probation Studies or Level 3 Diploma in Probation Practice or equivalent, or is a registered Social Worker BA (hons), MA/MSc in Social Work, with strong knowledge of the Probation Service and wider Criminal Justice Sector to support high-risk individuals through effective rehabilitation, safeguarding, risk management and multi‑agency collaboration within a specialist criminal justice environment.
We are also interested in candidates who have experience in the following roles: Probation Officer, Service Manager, Criminal Justice Practitioner, Safeguarding Lead, Social Worker, Probation Manager, Residential Services Manager, Criminal Justice Services Manager.
Salary: circa £45,000 per annum
Location: Newcastle upon Tyne – Fully Site Based (Occasional travel may be required across the local area and nationally, however these activities will be undertaken using remote technology, where possible)
Job Type: Full‑Time, Permanent
Working Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday with the option to be included in an on‑call rota (not mandatory)
Responsibilities
- Operational Management: Lead daily operations to ensure a safe and effective residential service
- Staff Development: Support training, coaching and professional development for the team
- Risk and Safeguarding: Embed robust safeguarding and expert risk management practice
- Stakeholder Engagement: Build strong relationships with partner agencies to support public protection
- Leadership and Oversight: Provide clear leadership, direction and accountability across the service
- Policy and Practice: Drive quality improvement through policy review and practice development
Candidate Requirements
- Diploma in Probation Studies or Level 3 Diploma in Probation Practice or equivalent OR Social Work Qualification BA (hons), MA/MSc in Social Work
- A good working knowledge of the Probation Service/Criminal Justice Sector
- Experience of multi‑agency working
- Knowledge of Enabling Environments
- Experience of delivering activities to develop the quality of practice, with individuals who have multiple complex needs
- Understanding of diversity, equalities and inclusive practice
- Experience of coaching and developing individuals and teams, to create an inclusive enabling environment
- Experience of managing risk and safeguarding
- Experience and knowledge of desistance and trauma informed approaches to achieving positive change and reducing reoffending
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to influence, negotiate, and motivate staff
- Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
- Proven ability to manage time, plan effectively, and prioritise competing demands to meet deadlines and organisational objectives
- Proficient in using IT and information systems to manage data effectively
- The ability to develop and promote new ideas, and provide feedback diplomatically and sensitively
- Skilled in facilitating workshops and practice discussions
