We are partnering with a rapidly growing UK infrastructure business operating at the forefront of the electric vehicle and power connections sector. This organisation delivers end-to-end infrastructure projects across the UK, covering civils, grid connections, and electrical installation. With continued growth and a shift toward a more scalable, subcontractor-led delivery model, they are now seeking a Head of Civils to take ownership of the function at a strategic level.
Why This Role Exists
Civils is the foundation of every project. When civils runs well, the electrical programme accelerates. When it doesn’t, everything slows. The business currently has strong site capability in place, but now requires a senior operational and commercial leader to elevate the department; someone who understands civils delivery inside out, but also knows how to structure, commercialise and scale it. This is not a site manager role. This is about owning the function.
The Opportunity
You will take responsibility for the full civils lifecycle across projects:
- Pre-construction input and design review
- Trenching, ducting and groundworks
- Reinstatement and compliance
- Subcontractor performance management
- Commercial oversight and margin protection
- Programme alignment with electrical teams
The organisation has transitioned to a predominantly subcontractor-focused delivery model, allowing for flexibility and SLA-driven performance. Your role will be to ensure those subcontractors are commercially accountable, operationally aligned, and technically robust.
What We’re Looking For
- Strong civil engineering background (utilities, ICP, power, infrastructure or similar)
- Experience managing subcontractors and holding them to commercial and performance standards
- Ability to challenge costs, scope creep and programme risks
- Understanding of pre-con, estimating, sequencing and risk mitigation
- A commercially aware mindset, not just delivery focused
- Confidence to lead from the office while maintaining presence on site when required
- Most importantly, you’ll be someone who can’t have the wool pulled over your eyes; technically credible, commercially sharp, and operationally structured.
