Due to continued growth and increasing client demand, Intertek is looking for a Biological Characterisation Scientist to join our expanding team in Melbourn. This is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic scientist who is looking to develop their career within a leading pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical testing laboratory. You'll work alongside experienced scientists, supporting the delivery of high-quality analytical services for a range of global clients while gaining hands-on experience with a variety of biological characterisation techniques.

We're looking for someone with a passion for science, strong laboratory skills and a willingness to learn. You'll enjoy working as part of a collaborative team, have excellent attention to detail and be motivated to deliver high-quality work in a regulated laboratory environment.

Required skills and experience:
  • A BSc or MSc in Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology or another relevant scientific discipline
  • Laboratory experience in biological analysis, cell culture or related techniques
  • Experience of biological assays such as ELISA or cell-based assays (desirable)
  • An understanding of GMP or other regulated laboratory environments (desirable)
  • Good laboratory practice and excellent attention to detail
  • Strong communication and organisational skills
  • The ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team
  • A proactive attitude and enthusiasm for learning new techniques

As a Biological Characterisation Scientist, you'll support the delivery of analytical testing for pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical clients, working on a variety of projects that help ensure the quality, safety and performance of new medicines. Working alongside experienced colleagues, you'll continue to develop your technical skills while contributing to high-quality scientific work in a collaborative laboratory environment.

Key activities:
  • Performing routine mammalian cell culture and biological assays
  • Carrying out analytical testing, including ELISA and cell-based assays
  • Supporting method development, optimisation and validation activities
  • Generating accurate scientific data and maintaining clear laboratory records
  • Interpreting results and contributing to technical reports
  • Maintaining laboratory equipment and ensuring a clean, organised working environment
  • Working in accordance with GMP, company procedures and health and safety requirements
  • Collaborating with colleagues across the laboratory to deliver projects on time and to a high standard
  • Continuously developing your technical knowledge and laboratory skills
