ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
The key focus of this position is to gain experience and knowledge in sampling techniques, scientific analysis and data gathering for interpretation by either Intertek or client personnel. During the first 3 months for this role and before your first offshore mobilisation, the Field Chemist will be embedded and trained within an onshore laboratory pillar to gain the skills required to support analytical tasks. You will simultaneously undergo dedicated field project training to develop the core skills required to support offshore sampling and analyses. The role benefits from wide and varied experiences, giving insight into many of the operations undertaken on-site.
Offsite working conditions are typically synonymous with a harsh North Sea environment. Due to workload and staff availability, a Field Chemist may be asked to carry out a task that would ideally be delegated to a more senior team member. In this situation, as much support as possible will be provided to aid the individual in carrying out the task.
Key activities:
- Carry out off-site field projects as assigned
- Be involved in the preparation and planning of field projects
- Undertake routine sampling, sample preservation and analyses as directed in the work scope
- Establish key laboratory techniques and understanding relevant to routine sampling field projects (e.g., oil in water monitoring & scale squeeze support), including regulatory oil in water sampling and analysis, including calibrations, BS&W & coulometric determination of water in oil, determination of density and chloride analysis (Mohr titration)
- Establish skills required to carry out necessary checks of Field Services Equipment
- Expeditious submission of Intertek trip documentation such as timesheet(s), report(s) and feedback forms
- Act as a representative of the company externally while communicating with clients and professional/technical bodies
Operational Support
When not carrying out a field project, support day-to-day operations within assigned laboratory pillar in analytical tasks. Actively promote a strong team culture by supporting assigned laboratory pillars in their goals and objectives. Providing support for any other reasonable request for site operations.
