The Welding Specialist is responsible for performing, supervising, and ensuring high-quality welding and fabrication activities in accordance with project specifications, engineering drawings, safety standards, and applicable industry codes.
Responsibilities:
- Perform welding activities using approved welding procedures.
- Execute various welding processes including SMAW, GTAW/TIG, GMAW/MIG, FCAW, SAW (where applicable).
- Weld carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and alloy materials as required.
- Prepare and fit materials prior to welding.
- Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and welding symbols.
- Fabricate and assemble structural or piping components.
- Perform cutting, grinding, beveling, and finishing operations.
- Ensure dimensional accuracy and alignment of fabricated parts.
- Verify weld quality in accordance with applicable standards and specifications.
- Conduct visual inspections before, during, and after welding.
- Coordinate or assist with NDT inspections such as UT, RT, MT, and PT.
- Ensure compliance with approved WPS and PQR documentation.
- Follow all site safety regulations and permit-to-work systems.
- Ensure proper use of PPE and welding safety equipment.
- Maintain fire prevention and hot-work safety measures.
- Identify and report workplace hazards.
- Operate and maintain welding machines and related tools.
- Inspect equipment before use and report defects.
- Ensure proper storage and handling of welding consumables and gases.
- Maintain welding logs and production records.
- Record weld traceability information and material heat numbers.
- Submit inspection reports and daily progress updates.
- Assist in preparing turnover and completion documentation.
Deliverables: completed welds meeting project specifications, inspection and quality records, welding activity reports, material traceability documentation, safety compliance records.
Qualifications:
- 10+ years of experience in oil and gas industry.
- Minimum 6 years of experience as Welding and NDT Inspector.
- CSWIP and/or ISO 9712 Level II (MT-RT-UT) certification or equivalent.
- Welding and NDT knowledge, with familiarity of QA/QC Welding Management Systems.
- Good knowledge of MS Office packages.
- Basic knowledge of metallurgy, welding engineering principles, and inspection/certification requirements (PED, etc.).
- Basic knowledge of radioprotection principles.
