Required skills and experience
- Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) with a solid technical accounting background.
- Proven experience in financial reporting and technical accounting within a large, multi-entity or listed environment.
- Strong track record of delivering accurate and timely month-end, quarter-end and year-end close processes.
- In‑depth knowledge of UK GAAP and statutory reporting requirements, with IFRS or US GAAP exposure advantageous.
- Experience managing external audit processes and acting as a key contact for audit stakeholders.
- Ability to lead, develop and performance‑manage high‑performing finance teams.
- Strong technical expertise combined with rigorous attention to detail and balance‑sheet discipline.
- Confident and credible communicator, able to influence and challenge senior stakeholders.
- Commercially astute, with the ability to translate financial data into meaningful business insights.
- Resilient and adaptable, comfortable in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment
- Passion for continuous improvement, with experience driving process efficiencies, automation and standardisation.
- Strong systems capability across ERP and consolidation tools, with advanced Excel skills and a focus on leveraging technology.
ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
Reporting to the UK Financial Controller, this is a senior role within the technical finance pillar, with responsibility for overseeing management reporting and statutory compliance across 20+ UK entities.
You’ll lead a team of Senior Reporting Accountants, setting the standard for accurate, timely and insightful financial reporting. With a strong focus on control, governance and continuous improvement, you’ll play a key role in enhancing processes, driving efficiencies and ensuring reporting reflects true business performance. This is a visible and fast‑paced role, offering real influence and the opportunity to make a lasting impact.
Team Leadership & Management
- Lead and develop a team of Senior Reporting Accountants, with oversight of Reporting Accountants and Reporting Accounts Assistants.
- Ensure all team members have clearly defined responsibilities and development plans.
Reporting & Accounting
- Manage the month-end, quarter-end and year-end close processes across 20+ UK entities, ensuring accurate and timely delivery of all Group reporting requirements.
- Review and challenge financial results across all business lines, ensuring reporting accurately reflects underlying operational performance and business activity, with well‑understood and clearly articulated outputs presented to business leaders.
- Maintain a robust financial control environment, with strong oversight of balance sheet positions and P&L variances.
- Review and approve balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring timely resolution and escalation of outstanding items.
Statutory Reporting & Compliance
- Oversee the statutory filing process for 20+ UK entities, ensuring all filings are completed accurately and on time in accordance with UK GAAP and Companies Act requirements.
- Act as key contact for internal and external audit, ensuring timely and high‑quality responses.
- Continuously strengthen the control environment, ensuring compliance with internal policies and regulatory standards.
- Drive process improvement, automation and standardisation to enhance efficiency, scalability and insight.
