We are seeking a candidate with proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel, strong verbal and written communication skills, and a Degree or HND in Materials Science, Metallurgy, Engineering, or a related discipline. The ideal candidate will have experience working in a laboratory environment, with metallurgy-related experience being beneficial, alongside a good understanding of Quality systems and auditing processes. Knowledge of HSE standards is preferable, while experience in failure investigations and supporting customer or supplier quality investigations would be advantageous.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Laboratory Technologist to join our Metallurgical Assessment team, playing a key role in delivering high-quality materials preparation, optical assessment, and technical reporting. Supporting manufacturing quality control, supplier approval, and failure investigations, this position offers the chance to work on critical processes within a dynamic and fast-paced engineering environment.
Key activities:
- Receive, collect items, samples for testing or examination and record in the relevant booking in the system.
- Prepare samples and carry out assessments against client specifications using optical microscopy.
- Manage personal workloads to ensure KPI turnaround time targets are maintained.
- Carry out routine quality control checks on microscope equipment and maintain logs.
- Interpret microstructures and identify material defects, inclusions, cracking, corrosion or heat-treatment anomalies.
- Assist in developing and reviewing standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Ensure equipment is maintained to a high standard.
- Produce simple technical reports using Microsoft Office and report to the client.
