We are currently seeking a highly motivated Technician to join our Non-Destructive Testing business line, based at our Turbines Facility in Bristol. You will be passionate about learning new skills producing test specimens in a hands-on technical engineering environment.
ABOUT YOU
We are seeking a Technician with a genuine passion for hands-on technical engineering with knowledge of workshop machinery and materials. You will be eager to learn new skills and techniques while developing your experience in a workshop laboratory environment, contributing to the machining and preparation of test specimens. You will have the ability to work as part of a team and motivation to grow within a supportive and expanding business.
Required skills and experience:
- Basic IT literacy skills.
- Willingness to learn new skills and techniques.
- Basic machining knowledge is advantageous but not essential as full training will be provided.
- Basic knowledge of materials and workshop safety.
ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
An opportunity has arisen for a Workshop Technician to perform the machining and preparation of test specimens at our Turbines Facility Laboratory based in Bristol. You will apply a range of sample preparation techniques, working to defined specifications and consistently delivering a high standard of work. This is an exciting opportunity for someone passionate about hands-on technical engineering.
Key activities:
- Sectioning components received into the laboratory using abrasive cutting machines and prepare samples using automated and manual polishing techniques.
- Work to documented procedures in accordance with required specifications for materials testing and analysis.
- Marking up of components from client drawings / schematics ready for sectioning.
- Microscope Assessment of Laser and EDM machined surfaces to support the machining of high temperature Nickel alloy components.
- Testing of Modulus of Rupture of Ceramics using High Temperature furnaces to support the foundry casting process.
- Maintain laboratory equipment using an in-house dedicated service and maintenance schedule. Diagnosis of faults and rectifications to be carried out to minimise equipment downtime.
- Ensure work is carried out to a high standard.
- Working in a fast-paced environment you will need to manage personal workloads to ensure tasks are completed in a timely manner and within targets.
- Work with experienced members of the team to develop improvements in sample preparation techniques.
- Maintain and order stock for the preparation area.
- Maintain 5S and HSE checks for the sample preparation area.
