ABOUT YOU: You are a highly experienced Coating Inspector with recognised certification (AMPP/NACE or Frosio Level 2) and strong knowledge of industry standards, inspection techniques, and QA/QC processes. With a solid background in oil & gas and naval projects, you bring technical expertise, a proactive approach, and a strong commitment to safety, quality, and ethical working practices.

Required skills and experience:

  • Relevant technical certification or trade qualification
  • Experience in industrial coating applications and inspections
  • Knowledge of applicable standards such as: SSPC / AMPP NACE ISO ASTM
  • Coating inspection certification preferred (e.g., AMPP/NACE Coating Inspector)
  • Certified NACE level II or as alternative: NS/476/Frosio Level 2
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in the O&G industry
  • Minimum 6 years of experience in Coating, Naval Industry as Coating Inspector
  • Good knowledge of MS Office Package
  • Excellent knowledge of welding and NDT techniques, basic knowledge of metallurgy and welding engineering principles, good knowledge of pressure vessel/piping inspection and certification requirements (PED etc)
  • Good knowledge of QA/QC Welding Management Systems
  • Basic knowledge of construction and commissioning HSE requirement and standards implementation
  • Basic knowledge of radioprotection principles and main requirements
  • Flexible and proactive individual with excellent communication skills and problem solving
  • High ethical standard for own and team members' work

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY: The Coating Inspector is responsible for surface preparation, coating application, inspection, and quality assurance activities to ensure protective coating systems are applied in accordance with project specifications, manufacturer recommendations, industry standards, and safety requirements.

Responsibilities of the role:

  • Surface Preparation: Inspect surfaces prior to preparation and coating application. Perform or supervise surface preparation activities including: Abrasive blasting, Power tool cleaning, Hand tool cleaning, Chemical cleaning, where applicable. Ensure required surface cleanliness and profile are achieved in accordance with applicable standards. Verify environmental conditions prior to coating application.
  • Coating Application: Apply protective coatings using approved methods such as: Airless spray, Conventional spray, Brush and roller application. Mix and prepare coating materials according to manufacturer specifications. Apply primers, intermediate coats, and finish coats to specified dry film thickness (DFT). Ensure proper curing and recoat intervals are maintained. Perform stripe coating on welds, edges, and difficult areas as required.
  • Inspection & Quality Control: Conduct inspections before, during, and after coating activities. Measure and record: Surface profile, Ambient conditions, Wet film thickness (WFT), Dry film thickness (DFT), Adhesion testing results, Holiday detection results, where applicable. Ensure compliance with approved coating specifications and inspection test plans (ITPs). Coordinate corrective actions for coating defects and non-conformances.
  • Material Handling & Storage: Verify coating materials are properly stored and handled. Monitor shelf life and batch traceability of coating products. Ensure proper labelling and segregation of materials.
  • Safety Compliance: Follow all site safety procedures and permit-to-work systems. Ensure proper use of PPE and respiratory protection. Implement safe handling procedures for hazardous coating materials and solvents. Monitor ventilation requirements in confined or enclosed spaces. Maintain fire prevention controls during coating operations.
  • Equipment Operation & Maintenance: Operate and inspect coating and blasting equipment. Verify calibration and condition of inspection instruments. Report malfunctioning equipment and coordinate maintenance activities.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Maintain coating inspection reports and daily activity logs. Record environmental monitoring data and coating measurements. Prepare punch lists and non-conformance reports (NCRs) where necessary. Submit final coating documentation and turnover packages.
