You’re a practically minded individual with a strong interest in chemistry or materials testing. You enjoy hands‑on work in a laboratory setting and feel confident following detailed procedures with accuracy and care. You are organised, comfortable handling chemicals, and keen to learn new techniques as part of a supportive team. Experience in a laboratory or workshop environment is helpful, but full training will be provided.
ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
This role sits within our Materials and Process Laboratory team in Solihull. You’ll support a range of testing activities, from sampling and preparing solutions to carrying out chemical analysis and materials testing. You’ll play a key role in recording results, maintaining equipment, and supporting high standards of safety, quality and housekeeping. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a chemistry or science background to grow their technical capability within an established, well‑supported laboratory.
KEY ACTIVITIES
- Carry out testing programmes for the assessment of process chemicals
- Sample process and plating tanks
- Prepare test solutions using laboratory techniques, including micropipettes, balances, dilutions and concentration calculations
- Support materials testing, such as XRF and fatigue analysis
- Handle chemicals safely in line with COSHH and health & safety assessments
- Maintain accurate records of results, observations and calculations
- Prepare, maintain and operate a variety of laboratory equipment
- Maintain good housekeeping in all work areas
- Follow all laboratory safety, quality and documentation standards
- Support wider team tasks as required (full training provided)
REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
- Chemistry background with hands‑on practical skills
- Experience handling chemicals or working in a workshop/lab environment (advantageous)
- Degree in a Science or Engineering discipline preferred (Chemistry A-level minimum)
- Flexible approach with the ability to work cooperatively across teams
- Excellent team player with good communication skills
