INTERTANKO is seeking a dynamic and strategic Commercial & Markets Manager to lead the Association’s commercial and markets function. Reporting to the Legal Director, you will drive the Association’s commercial work plan items, oversee market analysis, benchmarking and data-led insights, and deliver high value services that support Members in understanding the regulatory and geopolitical impacts on commercial performance, operational trends and freight markets.
In this influential role, you will manage the collection, analysis and interpretation of commercial data, developing benchmarking tools, performance systems and high-quality reports that identify key trends and emerging issues, ensuring Members receive accurate, relevant and actionable commercial intelligence. You will also respond to Member enquiries on a range of day-to-day commercial matters, including charterparty issues, freight and demurrage queries and broader market developments affecting tanker operations.
As a trusted adviser, you will collaborate closely with internal teams and external stakeholders, contribute to strategic initiatives, identify issues affecting commercial performance and develop practical solutions and guidance. You will also act as Secretary to the Commercial and Markets Committee.
The ideal candidate will bring strong commercial insight and strategic thinking, together with a practical understanding of the commercial operation of shipping businesses, including freight markets, chartering, voyage economics, Worldscale, Time Charter Equivalent performance, freight and demurrage matters, claims trends and the factors that influence commercial performance. The successful candidate should be able to interpret complex market dynamics and identify opportunities that deliver value to Members. This will include assessing commercial and trade implications that arise from regulatory and geopolitical developments.
You should be highly analytical, confident working with large data sets and benchmarking tools, and capable of transforming complex information into clear, engaging reports and executive-level insights. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills are essential, as is the ability to build and maintain relationships across a global network of industry contacts.
The role requires someone who can manage multiple commercial projects simultaneously, work collaboratively across legal, technical and operational teams and apply sound judgement in a regulated environment with strict confidentiality and competition law considerations.
Candidates will have a background in commercial and chartering operations within the maritime sector and ideally have experience in commercial or market analysis, business intelligence or strategy where commercial, legal and operational issues intersect. Experience producing high-quality insights for senior audiences, advising on commercial performance, and working in international environments will be highly advantageous. The role is particularly suited to individuals with experience in ship owning, chartering, commercial operations, post-fixture, brokerage or maritime market analysis environments.
If you thrive in a data-driven, globally connected environment and are motivated by delivering measurable value to a broad membership, we encourage you to apply. All commercial activities must be carried out in full compliance with the Association’s Competition Law Guidelines, data protection requirements, and ethical standards.
