Ready to take ownership of a major project and step into a broader commercial leadership role? We are recruiting for an experienced Commercial Manager to lead the commercial delivery of a £50m water and civil engineering project across Hampshire and the M3 / A3 corridor.

This opportunity will suit an established Commercial Manager or an ambitious Managing Quantity Surveyor (Managing QS) looking to take the next step into a senior commercial leadership position with greater responsibility, strategic input, and team leadership.

You will play a key role in shaping commercial performance, managing risk, driving profitability, and supporting the successful delivery of a high-profile project within a long-term programme of work.

The Opportunity

As Commercial Manager, you will take ownership of the commercial function across project delivery, ensuring robust commercial controls, strong contractual management, and delivery of financial objectives. Working closely with operational teams and senior stakeholders, you will provide strategic direction while maintaining day-to-day commercial oversight across the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the commercial delivery of a £50m water and civil engineering project
  • Provide commercial leadership across project teams and stakeholders
  • Manage, mentor, and develop a team of Quantity Surveyors and Commercial Administrators
  • Drive project profitability through cost control, forecasting, and financial performance management
  • Develop and implement commercial strategies to support business objectives
  • Ensure contractual compliance and protect commercial entitlements
  • Lead Cost Value Reconciliation (CVR) and cash flow management
  • Manage contract negotiations and secure commercially favourable outcomes
  • Oversee subcontract procurement and commercial administration
  • Resolve complex contractual matters including variations, claims, and dispute resolution
  • Build strong working relationships across client, operational, and leadership teams
  • Identify and manage commercial risk throughout project delivery
About You

We are keen to speak with experienced Commercial Managers, Managing Quantity Surveyors, or senior commercial professionals with a proven track record delivering major water and civil engineering projects. You will ideally bring:

  • Significant commercial management experience within water, civil engineering, infrastructure, or major project environments
  • Experience leading commercial teams and managing large-scale project delivery
  • Strong working knowledge of NEC3 contracts (Options A & C) NEC4 advantageous
  • Strong commercial and financial management capability including CVR, cost control, forecasting, and risk management
  • Experience managing contracts, subcontractors, and project profitability
  • Excellent negotiation and stakeholder management skills
  • Commercially astute with strong analytical and problem-solving capability
  • Confident communication skills with the ability to influence at all levels
  • Ambition to progress and make a visible impact within a growing project environment
