A leading UK Civil Engineering Contractor with an annual turnover exceeding £500 million is looking to recruit an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join its growing commercial team in Suffolk. This is an excellent opportunity to join a highly respected contractor at the start of a flagship infrastructure project, taking commercial responsibility for a significant earthworks and enabling works package valued at approximately £20 million.

Operating across the civil engineering and the energy sectors, the business continues to experience sustained growth, with a strong pipeline of major projects secured for the coming years. This role offers genuine long-term career prospects, with a clear pathway into Commercial Management for ambitious Quantity Surveyors looking to progress their careers. Hybrid working is available, with approximately 23 days per week on site.

The Role

Reporting to the Commercial Lead, the successful Senior Quantity Surveyor will take full commercial responsibility for a circa £20 million earthworks and enabling works package, managing the project through procurement, delivery and final account. Working under NEC contracts, you will play a key role in ensuring commercial success while supporting the operational team and mentoring junior members of the commercial department.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the commercial management of a £20 million earthworks and enabling works contract.
  • Administer contracts under NEC Terms & Conditions.
  • Manage subcontract procurement, tender evaluations and contract awards.
  • Prepare, monitor and present Cost Value Reconciliation (CVR) reports.
  • Monitor project costs, forecasts, cash flow and commercial performance.
  • Identify, manage and mitigate commercial risks and opportunities.
  • Prepare, negotiate and agree compensation events, variations and final accounts.
  • Manage subcontractor accounts, applications and payments.
  • Build strong relationships with clients, subcontractors and internal stakeholders.
  • Work closely with Project Managers to ensure commercial and operational objectives are achieved.
  • Support and mentor Assistant Quantity Surveyors and Quantity Surveyors.

About You

To be considered, you will ideally have:

  • Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or a related commercial discipline.
  • Proven experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor within Civil Engineering, Earthworks, Highways, Infrastructure, Utilities or Energy projects.
  • Strong knowledge and practical experience of NEC contracts.
  • Previous experience managing significant earthworks and enabling works packages.
  • Excellent commercial awareness and contractual knowledge.
  • Experience managing subcontractors and producing accurate CVR reporting.
  • Strong communication, negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
  • Full UK driving licence.
