As part of their continued growth in the utilities sector, a tier 1 civil engineering contractor is seeking to recruit a Lead Managing Quantity Surveyor to complement their team on a Capital Delivery Framework in the water sector. The role could offer an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor the opportunity to take the next step in their career and lends itself to an ambitious candidate seeking fast-track progression to Commercial Manager. The company is very much people-focused, and a heavy emphasis is placed on staff welfare, professional development and training.

This role is with the water division; the wider group maintains a strong presence in civil engineering, rail, aviation and construction.

The Managing Quantity Surveyor will:

  • Lead, support and encourage the commercial staff with their duties (training, mentoring and appraisal);
  • Develop an environment where Commercial and Project Management staff share ideas and best practices;
  • Monitor and support commercial staff through agreeing and regularly reviewing personal objectives;
  • Facilitate coaching/training to develop staff and ensure that Roles and Responsibilities for their commercial team members are understood and met.

The Role

Reporting to the Regional Commercial Manager, you will be responsible for:

  • Providing leadership and support to junior members of the team, and contractual advice and support to the operations delivery management team.
  • Reviewing Sub-contractors and engaging with and expanding the supply chain.
  • Raising new subcontracts, monitoring and adherence to governance levels.
  • Working closely with the Operational Lead to ensure that data is recorded accurately and identify risks and commercial opportunities.
  • Carrying out sub-contract evaluations and authorising payments.

Experience Required

Suitable applicants will be educated to HNC / BSc Quantity Surveying and will have no less than six years of Quantity Surveying experience working within the civil engineering or utility sectors as a Senior Quantity Surveyor or Managing Quantity Surveyor. You will have a thorough understanding of NEC forms of contracts and will be able to demonstrate a stable career history gained within either a sub or main contractor environment.
