Are you an experienced Assistant Quantity Surveyor looking to make an impact on smarter, greener infrastructure? This is an exciting opportunity to join a forward-thinking contractor delivering complex civil engineering and utilities projects across the UK.

The Assistant QS will play a key commercial role on a large-scale infrastructure programme with an exceptionally varied scope including groundworks, civils, drainage, pavements, and building construction with elements of structural concrete, steelwork, ductile iron pipework and racking systems. This is a genuinely engaging project where your input will make a visible difference.

Key Responsibilities
  • Produce accurate weekly and monthly cost value reconciliations.
  • Capture and allocate project costs, liabilities, and variations.
  • Develop and maintain long-term relationships with internal teams and supply chain partners.
  • Manage opportunities and risks, ensuring deviations from best practice are flagged and addressed.
  • Support in developing tenders, commercial offers, and contracts.
  • Identify and escalate inappropriate or non-compliant costs.
  • Record and track insurance claims and contract data.
  • Prepare sub-contract awards, manage payments, and ensure robust record-keeping.
  • Share best practices to support continuous improvement across the business.
About You

You’ll ideally have a degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or Construction Management, along with hands-on experience in subcontractor management. A strong commercial mindset is essential, along with familiarity in NEC3 (Option C) or similar contract frameworks and a sound understanding of construction and contract law.

You should also bring:

  • Strong technical construction knowledge and advanced Excel skills
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities
  • A proactive, collaborative approach with the confidence to challenge and influence
  • The ability to prioritise workload effectively and take ownership of outcomes
  • Client-facing experience would be advantageous.
