An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join a leading civil engineering main contractor delivering major water, utilities and infrastructure capital works projects across Surrey and the South East.

Following the award of several long-term contracts, including schemes for South East Water, our client is continuing to expand its commercial team. This is an excellent opportunity to join a financially secure and growing contractor with a strong pipeline of work, offering long-term career progression and exposure to high-profile civil engineering projects.

The Role

As a Quantity Surveyor, you will take responsibility for the commercial management of civil engineering and infrastructure capital works projects from procurement through to final account. Working closely with operational teams, clients and subcontractors, you will ensure projects are delivered efficiently while maximising commercial performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Commercial management of water, utilities and civil engineering capital works projects.
  • Prepare and manage cost reports, forecasts and valuations.
  • Produce applications for payment, variations and final accounts.
  • Procure, manage and reconcile subcontractor accounts.
  • Administer NEC contracts, including compensation events and change management.
  • Monitor project costs, budgets and cash flow.
  • Work closely with Operations and Planning teams to manage programme performance, progress and scope changes.
  • Support monthly WIP reporting and commercial reviews.
  • Identify commercial risks and opportunities throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, subcontractors and internal stakeholders.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have previous experience as a Quantity Surveyor within the civil engineering, infrastructure, water or utilities sectors and possess a strong understanding of commercial management on capital works projects.

Essential Requirements

  • Experience as a Quantity Surveyor within civil engineering, infrastructure, water or utilities.
  • Strong commercial knowledge of capital works projects.
  • Good working knowledge of NEC contracts.
  • Excellent cost management, forecasting and reporting skills.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Strong communication, negotiation and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Full UK driving licence.

Desirable

  • Degree in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline.
  • HNC/HND in Civil Engineering or a similar engineering qualification.
  • Membership of, or working towards, RICS or CIOB.
