An established infrastructure delivery organisation is seeking an experienced Managing Quantity Surveyor to take commercial ownership of a long-term utilities framework across Sussex. This senior position offers a blend of strategic responsibility and hands-on leadership, with hybrid working available (23 days per week based in Brighton).
You will work closely with a major water-sector client while leading a high-performing commercial team. The role is central to driving commercial performance, managing contractual risk, and ensuring strong financial control across multiple workstreams.
As Managing Quantity Surveyor, you will play a key role in operational decision-making and commercial strategy, supporting successful project delivery and long-term profitability.
Key Responsibilities- Leading, mentoring, and developing a team of Quantity Surveyors and commercial support staff
- Providing senior commercial leadership across live contracts and frameworks
- Ensuring compliance with contractual obligations and protection of commercial entitlement
- Developing and implementing commercial strategies to improve project performance and margins
- Managing project budgets, forecasts, cost control, and financial reporting
- Overseeing cost value reconciliation (CVR) and effective cash flow management
- Supporting and leading commercial negotiations with clients and supply chain partners
- Managing and resolving complex commercial matters, including variations, claims, and final accounts
- Ensuring subcontract and supplier agreements are commercially robust and aligned with business objectives
You will be a Managing Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor with strong experience in the utilities or infrastructure sector. You will have a proven ability to lead commercial teams and manage the commercial elements of large-scale contracts or frameworks.
You will bring:
- Strong knowledge of NEC contracts, particularly NEC3 Options A and C
- Excellent financial and commercial acumen with a focus on margin protection and risk management
- The ability to communicate complex commercial information clearly to stakeholders at all levels
- A structured, analytical approach with strong attention to detail
- The resilience and adaptability to perform in a fast-paced, delivery-led environment
