Due to the award of a major long-term infrastructure project, a leading UK Civil Engineering Contractor with an annual turnover exceeding £500 million is looking to recruit an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join its growing commercial team in Suffolk. This is an excellent opportunity to join a highly respected contractor at the start of a flagship infrastructure project, taking commercial responsibility for a significant earthworks and enabling works package valued at approximately £20 million.

Operating across the civil engineering and the energy sectors, the business continues to experience sustained growth, with a strong pipeline of major projects secured for the coming years. This role offers genuine long-term career prospects, with a clear pathway into Commercial Management for ambitious Quantity Surveyors looking to progress their careers. Hybrid working is available, with approximately 2-3 days per week on site.

The Role

Reporting to the Commercial Lead, the successful Senior Quantity Surveyor will take full commercial responsibility for a circa £20 million earthworks and enabling works package, managing the project through procurement, delivery and final account. Working under NEC contracts, you will play a key role in ensuring commercial success while supporting the operational team and mentoring junior members of the commercial department.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the commercial management of a £20 million earthworks and enabling works contract.
  • Administer contracts under NEC Terms & Conditions.
  • Manage subcontract procurement, tender evaluations and contract awards.
  • Prepare, monitor and present Cost Value Reconciliation (CVR) reports.
  • Monitor project costs, forecasts, cash flow and commercial performance.
  • Identify, manage and mitigate commercial risks and opportunities.
  • Prepare, negotiate and agree compensation events, variations and final accounts.
  • Manage subcontractor accounts, applications and payments.
  • Build strong relationships with clients, subcontractors and internal stakeholders.
  • Work closely with Project Managers to ensure commercial and operational objectives are achieved.
  • Support and mentor Assistant Quantity Surveyors and Quantity Surveyors.

About You

To be considered, you will ideally have:

  • Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or a related commercial discipline.
  • Proven experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor within Civil Engineering, Earthworks, Highways, Infrastructure, Utilities or Energy projects.
  • Strong knowledge and practical experience of NEC contracts.
  • Previous experience managing significant earthworks and enabling works packages.
  • Excellent commercial awareness and contractual knowledge.
  • Experience managing subcontractors and producing accurate CVR reporting.
  • Strong communication, negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
  • Full UK driving licence.
