An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Construction Project Manager to lead a high-profile energy sector project valued at approximately £65M, based in Newport, South Wales. Reporting directly to the Project Director, this role offers a unique chance to gain exposure to major infrastructure delivery and progress into a broader leadership position within a growing sector. The project includes a mix of structural and civil engineering works, encompassing groundworks, drainage, pavement, and building construction, as well as steel and concrete structural elements. The successful candidate will ensure that all phases of the project are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage all on-site construction activity, ensuring safe, timely, and cost-effective project delivery
- Take ownership of the project programme, financial performance, and reporting
- Oversee and coordinate operatives, subcontractors, and the wider project team
- Ensure compliance with company management systems, including Environmental, Quality, and Construction Phase Plans
- Manage health, safety, environmental, and quality performance, including RAMS, lifting operations, and temporary works
- Provide visible leadership on site, promoting a culture of safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement
- Maintain accurate project documentation, reporting, and stakeholder communication
- Build and sustain positive relationships with clients, supply chain partners, and internal teams
- Lead, mentor, and develop direct reports to create a high-performing project team
- Encourage innovation and value engineering across all project stages
Candidate Requirements
- Degree-qualified Civil Engineer (or equivalent experience), with CSCS, SMSTS, and a full UK driving licence
- Proven track record managing large-scale civil or energy-related construction projects; experience in utilities or infrastructure is advantageous
- Strong knowledge of CDM regulations, NEC contracts, and temporary works management
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to effectively manage budgets, programmes, and multidisciplinary teams
- Professional chartership (ICE, CIOB, CIHT, or APM) or working towards it is desirable
- Additional qualifications such as Temporary Works Supervisor, IOSH, ILM Level 3, or formal CDM training are advantageous
