The Opportunity
My client, a leading UK retailer, is embarking on one of the most ambitious technology and business transformations in the sector, a multi-year programme to deliver a next-generation ERP platform and digital capability. This will redefine how they serve customers, manage operations, and compete in an increasingly dynamic market.
They are seeking a Senior Procurement & Commercial Leader to shape and execute the sourcing, contracting, and supplier governance strategy underpinning this ERP transformation. Reporting to the Head of Procurement and working closely with the C-suite and Programme Board, you will lead high-value negotiations, manage multi-vendor contracts, and ensure that commercial arrangements drive value, mitigate risk, and enable long-term agility.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the procurement strategy for one of the UK’s largest retail ERP transformations.
- Negotiate multi-year, high-value contracts with SAP, Accenture (preferred SI partner), and other cloud service providers.
- Develop and implement innovative commercial models, supplier incentives, and cost-optimisation frameworks.
- Establish and oversee commercial governance structures ensuring compliance, performance, and delivery assurance across a complex multi-supplier ecosystem.
- Act as a trusted advisor to the Programme Board, providing commercial insight, risk analysis, and sourcing recommendations.
- Ensure contracts are structured to safeguard value, control risk, and enable flexibility for future business needs.
Essential Experience
- Proven senior leadership in procurement/commercial roles within complex organisations (retail or consumer-facing preferred).
- Track record negotiating and managing ERP/SAP contracts and major SI/cloud service agreements (£50m+).
- Expertise in commercial models for ERP (SaaS, subscription, cloud/on-premise licensing) and multi-vendor delivery structures.
- Strong background in supplier performance management, contract compliance, and risk governance.
- Ability to influence and build credibility with C-suite stakeholders and programme leadership teams.
The Person
- A procurement and commercial expert with a strategic mindset and strong execution focus.
- Skilled negotiator with experience in complex, high-value technology contracts.
- Confident in operating at board level, balancing pace with rigour in high-stakes environments.
- Collaborative, pragmatic, and capable of building trusted relationships across suppliers and internal stakeholders.
Why This Role?
This is a rare opportunity to shape the commercial foundation of a transformation that will define the future of UK retail. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in securing value, mitigating risk, and ensuring the success of one of the largest ERP initiatives in the sector.
