The placement student will be working with the engineering and CAD teams as a CAD technician at our subsidiary MEP design consultancy www.bsguk.com. The team is responsible for the following services:

  • Mechanical building services drawings (heating/hot water/drainage/renewables/Ventilation/AC)
  • Electrical building services drawings (LV/Fire/Access/BMS/Lighting/AV/IT/Lifts/Comms)
  • Co‑ordination drawings

Students will be expected to complete work efficiently to meet deadlines, be flexible and adaptable in their approach, communicate with project teams, and present their work in a formal setting. Working as a technician is a very collaborative role that requires working well with others and taking initiative when required. A base understanding and use of AutoCAD is needed; BIM/Revit experience would be a bonus but not required.

The placement student will have an assigned mentor who will oversee workload and training, providing support as needed. The student and mentor will have periodic reviews to assess skill level, progression, and training needs. As the student progresses through the term, they will be given more opportunity to lead and manage their own projects and manage their workload.

There will also be opportunities to experience other elements of the services we provide as a company (e.g. environmental, acoustics, civils, MEP design, thermal and energy modelling, embodied carbon assessments) if desired by the candidate to ensure a well‑rounded and productive experience.
