We are a grassroots group of young people organizing Britain's first democracy festival, DemocraFest, to engage young people in politics outside the traditional party conferences. The festival aims to be informed by key issues affecting young people in the UK, in a relaxed, festival-style atmosphere with music and local food. DemocraFest will feature speakers from major political parties, celebrities, experts, podcasters, comedians, and musicians.
DemocraFest aims to achieve three things:
- Make 18 to 35-year-olds more socially and politically engaged.
- Engage with views across the spectrum, especially if you don’t agree with them.
- Show that debating and politics can be fun.
Responsibilities
- Volunteer as a University Organizer reporting to the Founder, Marketing Manager, and event-planning team.
- Build connections with universities and outreach networks to recruit debate speakers and festival attendees.
- Create a network of at least five university society presidents who align with our mission (presidents receive one free ticket to the festival).
- Help organize a debate at your university during the coming academic year in partnership with a society or club of your choice.
- Help prepare the 2026 festival agenda and co-ordinate with programme organizers.
- Promote the event on social media platforms, with at least one post per month.
- Attend an away day with other University Organizers in winter and present on progress.
- Research potential partners, sponsors, and speakers; email or contact them via social media and keep our tracker up-to-date with outreach activity.
- Assist in program development and coordination with the programme team.
- Work with us in our London office (five-minute walk from Westminster tube) with flexible hours and potential for hybrid or remote work.
Qualifications and Attributes
- Strong background in social media marketing, political activism, advertising, and/or event planning.
- Proactive and able to take initiative to connect with networks of debate speakers and festival attendees.
- Alignment with DemocraFest values and a desire to change the political climate in the UK by encouraging youth engagement.

- Role is part-time internship and unpaid.
- Timings are very flexible; the role offers experience in business, politics, public affairs, and events.
- Location: central London (near Westminster). Hybrid or remote work possible.
